Cairns is the most northern major city on Australia’s east coast. It is situated in the tropics and enjoys warm weather all year round. During our cooler months of March to November it averages 28oC. In the other months it averages 32oC. Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, the largest living reef in the world and the Daintree Rainforest. Both are heritage listed. |
The Cairns region can be put in to 5 main regions;
The city centre of Cairns is the night life and shopping area of the region. It is also the main departure point for many of the reef and island tours.
The northern beaches is the area where Cairns' best beaches are. It includes all the beaches north of the airport. In order they are Machan's Beach, Holloway's Beach, Yorkey's Knob, Trinity Beach, Kewarra Beach, Clifton Beach and Palm Cove.
The tablelands area behind Cairns has towns such as Atherton, Mareeba, and Kuranda. There is breath-taking scenery and sightseeing, as well as some great camping and fishing spots.
Port Douglas, is a popular resort town about 60 kms north of Cairns. They have many resorts and reef trips as well as a few other attractions. The drive there up the coast from Cairns is amazing.
Cape Tribulation where the Daintree Rainforest is situated is not far north from Port Douglas. Once you cross the Daintree River you are in some of the most stunning rainforest in the world. When in the Daintree you can stay inexpensively at P.K.'s Jungle Village. Definitely a great weekend trip.
Cairns English is situated at Clifton Beach which is 22 km from Cairns city. We are also only a few minutes away from the main road going to the tablelands. In many ways we are ideally situated to better enjoy your time here.
Cairns is the gateway to the barrier reef and the daintree rainforest and there are many tour companies providing excellent tours to both these world heritage listed places. But Cairns also has a huge assortment of other activities to make your stay here enjoyable.
If you like extreme sports you can sky dive, white-water raft, paraglide, bungee jump or go hot air ballooning. If you prefer shows, Cairns offers many cultural shows based around the aboriginal culture. Whatever it is that you like doing, Cairns will have a company providing it for you.
