Clifton Beach in our opinion (and that of many Cairns' residents) is the best beach in Cairns. It is a large beach consisting of 3 beaches; Kewarra Beach in the south, Clifton Beach in the middle and Palm Cove in the north. The beach is lined from one end to the other with many shade trees so you can enjoy a lay on the beach at any time of day and know that you can get protection from the sun. It is situated 22 kms from Cairns city and takes about 30 minutes by bus. It is one of a few beaches known as the 'northern beaches'.

Our 'home school' and the accommodation we offer is situated within easy walking distance of the beach. The photo above shows the full length of the beach. The bottom shows the Palm Cove jetty with Kewarra Beach in the far distance. Clifton Beach is in the centre of the beach.

Along the beach are free to use BBQs and swimming enclosures. It makes an ideal meeting place for students to get together for parties. Enjoy your celebrating on the golden sands of Clifton Beach.

Why stay near the city when most things you want every day are not there?

We have spoken to hundreds of students in 2008/2009/2010 and most of them said they were not happy with their accommodation. They were happy with the apartment or homestay family they were with, they just were not happy that they could not easily go out for free each day.

Buses in Cairns are not cheap. The average fare will be over $3-00 and the route the bus takes is often very long and goes down many streets. So the students have had no choice than to stay home on most nights.

Our accommodation is only a short walk to the beach. You can stroll along the beach to enjoy some souvenir shopping and some great cafes and restaurants at Palm Cove. A shopping centre is also walking distance from our home or an easy bike ride. And for those times you do want to go to the city, there are 2 bus services that stop near our home. The express bus takes about 30 minutes to the city centre. Or you can catch the bus to Cairns Zoo that is about 10 minutes away.

Palm Cove is a pleasant 20 minute stroll up the beach or short bike ride and has many cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from. You can also arrange to be picked up by most tour operators in Cairns from close to our home for a small additional fee.
