Cairns English specialises in offering you value for money English courses in a small groups of never more than 6 students.We offer intensive English courses that focus on only the skills you want to improve. Our courses are designed to improve your speaking, listening, vocabulary and pronunciation skills in every day English.
English schools in Cairns are located in the city centre and have up to 18 students in a group. The accommodation is normally a bus ride to and from school each day and their classes start at 8-30am. Most students have to wake up at 6-30am to be at school on time. The students also spend $3-00 or more for each bus trip, this equals $30 or more in travel costs each week and 1 hour each day.
When you study with us you will have no need to get up early and catch a bus to class; your classroom is where you live. We also don't start our classes at a time when you are still half asleep. As there will NEVER be more than 6 students in your class, your study time is only 3 hours each day, Monday to Friday. Although other schools offer 20 hours a week you will find 15 hours with us will be more productive in improving your English. With only a maximum of 6 students in a group you will get more personalised time with the teachers.
You will have 2 x 90 minute classes a day from Monday to Friday. The first class is from 9-30am to 11-00am, then a 30 minute tea break, then your second class is from 11-30am to 1-00pm. You finish your lessons each day at 1-00pm. This leaves you half the day to go and experience Cairns, swim in our pool or walk to the beach and enjoy the Cairns weather. Other English language schools start at 8-30am and finish around 3-30pm.
Speaking improvement course
The course we recommend the serious learner of English is the "speaking improvement course". This course has minimal grammar and maximum focus on your speaking, listening, vocabulary and pronunciation skills.
This course is based on the top 3,500 most commonly used words and phrases in English. It is designed to give you a foundation of English that is used in every day situations. It will give you the basis for learning specialised English or for exam English.
This course is $350 per week and includes twin share accommodation, 15 hours of lessons a week, high speed internet and the use of a bicycle. If you would like your own room it is an extra $105 per week.
General English course
Our general English course is based on text books we have used over the years to teach English. The course will meet the national standards and include a balance of grammar, reading, writing, listening and speaking. We will use an interactive method of teaching and use many activities, role playing situations, worksheets and games.
This course is $350 per week and includes twin share accommodation, 15 hours of lessons a week, high speed internet and the use of a bicycle. If you would like your own room it is an extra $105 per week.
Business English course
Business English is offered at any time to 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 students (if booking together). Or we will accept a group booking any time for bookings of 4 or more students. Bookings are subject to room availability.
IELTS preparation courses
Both Olga and Paul have experience teaching exam preparation English. We offer high quality exam preparation courses for IELTS.
We offer you IELTS preparation in a relaxed atmosphere and a class of only 6 students. There are IELTS tests in Cairns every month. We will organise your test for you and get you prepared to achieve your required result.
This course is $420 per week and includes your own room, 15 hours of lessons a week, high speed internet and the use of a bicycle. Couples (boyfriend / girlfriend, husband/wife etc) can book our double room for $350 per person ($700 a week for both). That is a saving of $140 on the rate for 2 students.
We can only accept IELTS preparation students on a 1-to-1 basis, 2-to-1 basis or as a group booking of 4 or more students.
Touring Classroom
Cairns English is happy to offer a touring classroom. Throughout the year we will offer a variety of exciting travelling classrooms. These trips will be 1 week and include trips camping at Lake Tinaroo, trips to the Daintree region, a snorkelling swimming adventure, a tablelands discovery trip and many more.
These special travelling classrooms will be announced through out the year on the home page.
The price for these tours will vary depending on the destination and what is included. All details will be shown when the tours are announced.
1-to-1 and 2-to-1 classes
We also offer 1-to-1 classes where you are the only student with your teacher. The price for 1-to-1 is $980 per week for General English and $1,190 per week for IELTS preparation or Business English courses. The price includes accommodation in your own private room and 15 hours of lessons per week.
We can also offer you 2-to-1 classes where there are only 2 students and 1 teacher. This is ideal for husband and wife, boyfriend and girlfriend or 2 friends travelling together. The price for 2-to1 is $560 per person per week for general English and $630 per week per person for Business English and Exam preparation courses. This includes your own private room and 15 hours of lessons with your teacher.
All prices include electricity and wireless high speed internet connection.
The prices DO NOT include meals as most students have told us that they prefer their own meals than Australian meals. You will have access to a fully equipped kitchen, cooking utensils and barbecue to prepare your meals.
