About Paul

Hi, I am an English language teacher with 7 years experience teaching English to foreign students. I have a CELTA (University of Cambridge certificate) for teaching English to adult students. I have taught in Russia for 3 years, China for 1 year and Australia for 3 years.

After teaching for 6 months in Australia in 2004 I moved to Moscow where I taught English for 2.5 years and then Omsk for 6 months. During my time there I taught a variety of levels and courses. I specialise in business English, exam preparation (FCE & IELTS), general English and speaking improvement classes.

I left Moscow in 2007 and moved to southern China to teach for 1 year. While I was there I taught school age children and business English to adults.

In late 2008 I moved back to my home city where I started my own home school called Cairns English. For the next 2.5 years I taught students from many countries that came to Australia to study English with me in a home stay arrangement.

I believe lessons should be interesting and fun. I teach only minimum grammar and focus more on listening, speaking, vocabulary and pronunciation skills.

Fees are based on the number of students studying and the time of day you wish to study. Please understand that most students wish to study at the same time and this can make it difficult for me to fit all student requirements into a schedule. I have therefor created a time table of offered lessons.

Australia tour groups

If you are interested in seeing Australia and studying at the same time, I am looking for interested people that would like to visit Australia for 3-4 weeks and see some of the more interesting parts of Australia. This is a new idea and I would like to hear from interested students.

The idea is that we would hire a mini-bus and travel to some of the more interesting parts of Australia that many tourists don't see. We would start in Sydney, travel south to Melbourne, accross to the Barossa Valley wine growing area in South Australia and then back up through the centre of Australia through Tamworth for the music festival and out to Bunderburg and then down the east coast through Brisbane, Byron Bay and finishing back in Sydney.

Lera from Russia holding a koala at Cairns zoo

Hi my name is Lera I am from Siberia Russia. I was Paul's student in Russia and then Australia at school in Cairns. My English is better now after staying with Paul for 5 weeks study. I enjoy my study with him because he is fun teacher and live in a beautiful house near beach.

I tell all students that Paul small school is best way to improve English. He is kind and friendly teacher and always have time for me. We went camping and to the reef and Cairns zoo together and it was so much fun. There was only 4 students in my class and I had so much time to learn English.

Yuri from Russia

Hello I am Yuri from Russia. I had great time with Paul at his school at his home. I not like big groups and I was happy in my group of only 3 students. My English has got better thanks to Paul. I learn good English that I can use every day. Paul is not only my teacher he is my friend and we had many good times together.

I am businessman and can say that Paul knows business good and I learn a lot from him to help my business in Russia. I will come and stay with them again next year.

I am older than most students but that not matter when study in small groups with Paul, we all have lots of fun and learn many things.

I needed English for my work, and I didn't have any idea, my level was "elementary". It was the reason, I thoguht travel around Australia and study in academy. But the true was, it didn't work I didn't learn english. At the begining I thought, that maybe the academy wasn't good, because there were a lot of people inside the class (+- 16 people), and I couldn't practice enough my English, (If you have lucky, you can say one sentence). It was , when I decided to change  the school, but it happened again, my English it didn't improve. In fact I changed a lot of times of school, more o less all the school are the same, it is very funny (and sometimes even it doesn't funny), but you don't learn nothing.

Finally I decided "Sutdy and live my teacher", this experience it was complitly different, it was funny and in only one and half month my English improved a lot. I think this is a good way to learn English, in fact for me is the best way.
But in this way, it is very important the teacher because you are living with them.
I recomend you not only the way for learn Englih "Living with your teacher", I recomended you in special "Paul", he is very friendly, you can share with theirs a lot of differents things like dinner, go out cinema, camping...wheteher the true is you are all the day speaking Englihs with him, and he is funny and delighted, charming and good teacher. It was so easy live with him. Now, i think my Englihs is better and I have one friend more.
THANKS PAUL, I MISS YOU.
CARINA.

Without doubt the best way to learn english that I have tried is Cairns English School. I spent 6 weeks and it really worked. I needed to speak english to work in a intenational company and it was the pushing that I needed. Paul is a very good teacher, and he spends a lot of energy adapting the course to make it easier for you. I strongly recomend this course.
